the five elements: fire

The third element is agni, known as fire. The other four elements are space, air, water and earth.

Fire is the power of conversion and transformation.

In the human body it is the digestive process. It is also the digestion of thoughts and ideas.

What does the fire element look like in your life?

The fire element is your power house. Are you motivated? Do you follow through whether it’s answering an email, standing up for a cause you believe in or committing to a daily meditation or Yoga practice? Do you go after your dreams?

Ayurveda teaches that life is a dance between too much and too little of each element.

cultivating balance

Too much fire? It could look like indigestion, inflammation, red eyes or a short temper. It is literally the color of fire showing up in your body.

How can you balance excess fire?

Cool off with a mint tea, relax in the shade and focus on eating mild foods. Choose to have fun and enjoy life.

Too little fire? It could look like a lack of motivation, laziness or a fuzzy haze that causes mental confusion.

How can you balance deficient fire?

Break a sweat. Dance around to your favorite song. Drink ginger tea. Figure out a system to hold yourself accountable whether it’s with a friend or a sticker in your planner. Set goals that are in alignment with your highest self so that you are stoked to follow through.

Fire is my strongest element. The fire element drives me to share my passions through teaching Ayurveda and Yoga workshops, blogging and continuously learning.

I also use my fire to commit to a daily Yoga practice. However, my Yoga practice has changed over the years. A teacher once said that what you focus on during your practice should be what you need in your life. For me, that means slowing down and nurturing the other elements such as water and earth to balance out the fire that’s already within me.

How do you create fire? How do you balance your flame?
