less is more
I firmly believe that less is more and that most kitchen gadgets take up space, make cleaning up difficult and don’t carry their worth. However, here are the things I find add value and make practicing Ayurveda practical and easy.
You can listen to the podcast episode here, plus I have a more extensive resource list here.
Kitchen Supplies
Mason jars- used as a water bottle and to store half an avocado and other leftovers. They are portable, dishwasher safe, odorless and so convenient for just about everything and anything. The wide mouth are great for soup, broth and tea storage.
Glass Tupperware- Try to avoid plastic whenever possible!
Thermos- for packing kitchari, rice and beans, and other lunches. Perfect for errands or work.
Regular old kitchen scissors- to cut herbs
Bamboo cutting board
Instant Pot or another pressure cooker
How to cook any veggie in a cast iron:
Warm ghee, sesame or coconut oil in the pan. Add spices. Add veggies. Toss to coat. Add water. Cover and simmer. Add more water if the veggies start to dry out.
Planetbox Rover- Pricy but worth it for packing kids' lunches. Dishwasher safe, so easy to fill up with veggies, doesn’t create waste from single use plastic snacks, easy to clean
Thermos water bottle- the only one we have with a straw that doesn’t leak
Parchment paper- If You Care Brand for mess-free roasting of veggies
Bathroom
Tongue scraper -If you buy nothing else, please buy a tongue scraper!
